If you have the older version of the SCAL software installed on your computer (for use with your cricut machine), you will first need to have inkscape installed on your computer...inkscape is a free program that you can get here:
IF YOU HAVE THE OLDER VERSION OF THE MTC SOFTWARE (for use with your Cricut Machine)....YOU DO NOT NEED INKSCAPE...you can import the svg file directly into the MTC..make sure to bring the cutting cafe file in at ACTUAL SIZE with DPI at 90....after that you can enlarge or make the images smaller.

Tip from customer Cathy:
Here is some information and pointers when working with the PDF TEMPLATES files
PDF files are so simple to use:
Please note
Basically the printable stamps and the cutting files are somewhat the same..both come in pdf format..the main differences is that the printable stamp is meant to act like a stamped image...print it then color in..unlike the CUTTING FILE in PDF format, the images/lines will be separated for ease of paper piecing and for making the boxes/bags or shaped items...also some of the cutting files are a bit more intricate then others...even though these still come in pdf format, they work better with a cutting machine..you may only be able to print it out and color it in; instead of paper piecing all of the little pieces.
Okay now for the pdf tips
With PDF you print out the cuts using your home printer. Think of the PDF as being a template that you can use over and over again....Very SIMPLE, put cardstock or pattern paper into your printer...cut, score and assemble...then embellish.
PLEASE NOTE: To be able to open the PDF files, you will need to have ADOBE READER installed on your computer............here is the link to the latest ADOBE READER...the program is free to download:

Tool for SCORING the lines to be folded: SCOR-PAL works PERFECT for scoring all of the Cafe' templates..you can vist them by click here.
Creating Paper Piecings: All of the pieces are separated to be able to create a paper piecing with different colors of paper, but you will have to put in different pieces of paper in your printer a few times to get the proper colors you want for each piece.
Cutting out the insides: For areas that have a cut out in the inside of other lines, a good craft knifeworks well. Also a BONE TOOL is great for creasing the fold lines before folding.
Printing just ONE part of the file: You can just have one image print on a page instead of all of the images...follow the instructions below:
1. Open up the PDF file that contains the image.
2. Click on TOOLS
3. Then click on SELECT & ZOOM
4. Then click on SNAPSHOT TOOL (has like a camera next to it).
5. The cursor turns into like a dotted box....draw an imaginary box around the image that you want to print and click on the printer.
..........THE IMAGE WILL PRINT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PAGE.............
Don't worry about wasting paper with the image printing in the middle of the page, you can always use a plain sheet of scrap paper and have the image print out first on this paper to see where it will print and then tape a smaller piece of paper onto this spot and print again....take off the tape and remove image from scrap paper.
